I love the look of wide plank floors in a cottage kitchen. They can be very expensive, especially here on Long Island. Since the kitchen that I am re-doing is on the small size. I only needed 150 square feet of flooring. The best price I could find was still out of the budget.
I really wanted something like this

Wightman Lumber in the town of Newportland located in upstate New York is a favorite destination for our carpenter John, who happens to have relatives in the area, and happened to have gone to visit them last weekend. Lucky Me!
The prices are substantially lower then here where we live.
You can check out their website here.
John was able to purchase unfinished Eastern White Pine flooring in planks 5", 6" and 8" wide
for a cost of
$175
I am going to stain and finish the surface myself to save money
to go from this linoleum
to something more like this

I love wood floors as well. It reminds me of my grandparents old houses back in the Philippines where they have this really nice wood floors and I think they were made out of Mahogany or something made out of good quality wood. My grandma always made sure that the floors were so clean and shiny that it's so shiny you can see your reflection. I love your kitchen wood floor. I love old cottages as well. :) I wish I live in one. :)

I was going to say that it's not too expensive to get the router bits to do the tongues and grooves but I see that these already have them. That's a great price and I'm eager to see how it comes out.
I love them too!!

We used this same pine planking on the walls and ceiling of the new studio and I love it. I want to do everything in it now. lol! SO affordable!
If you asked me to name my #1 favorite decorating element ~ it would be ancient looking wide plank flooring. I have an inspiration file full of photos like those you shared.

I love wood floors, and have the tradidional narrow boards (actually they are oak laminate), but really love the wide plank boards. Your customer will be delighted, and I can't wait to see it.
Wow! If I spring for the trip to MInnesota, would you hop over and do my kitchen too? :)
I love the look of wide planks, too. I'll be looking forward to seeing the floor once you have them done.

They are gorgeous - you are an inspiration!
We have the exact same flooring installed in our house, and we love it!! We bought ours from Lumber Liquators at 99 cents a square foot, and were able to afford REAL WOOD flooring in our whole house for around 2000 dollars! And I just love the unfinished pine, because you can put whatever kind of finish you want on it. Most of the flooring we whitewashed, but we stained the master bedroom and our son's room, and I painted a checkerboard on the laundry room flooring. It's so much fun!
Can't wait to see how yours turns out. I know it is going to be beautiful!! :)
Home Depot has these cool planks too that look beat up and rough look already a lot like the last picture! I am already planning to use them when we buy a house!!
Here it is.. i guess the less perfect look is called hand scraped

nothing beats great wood floors. sigh!
a great find. We used unfinished white pine in our addition... and now that it is stained and refinished and significantly dinged up... everyone thinks it is really old!
Stumbled on your blog today and I have a question. You're getting pine for your kitchen floor. Is it a softwood flooring that will get dinged and have a "lived in" look shortly, or get impression marks from table/chair legs? I have always wondered; and its the thing stopping me from replacing my living room/hallway carpet.
Thanks for mentioning our Eastern White Pine flooring! I hope it works out well for you and we'd love to see pictures of the finished kitchen. I really enjoyed learning more about your business through your blog and look forward to following you!

I'm eager to see what happens. I, too, need to replace my ugly kitchen floor. The problem is matching the wood to the rest of the apartment. If you have any advice once you've gone through the process, I hope you'll share it.
