If you have a teenage girl in your home - you will most likely know exactly what I am talking about in this post. First I will give you a little background on my own teenage self. During my years growing up in a modest ranch home, I shared a tiny bedroom with my younger sister Lisa. Well if you are familiar with the television show the Odd couple you will know what type of relationship we had.
Lisa was tidy and neat, always made her bed. Even her stuffed animals were lined up in order by height. I on the other hand, and I hate to admit this was a complete slob. I had a constant pile of clothes on the floor, magazines, crafts allover the place, and little collections of whatever I liked at the time (usually in the form of little bits of paper). I had a vanity with make-up all over and stickers of all the hot guys in the latest issue of Teen Beat.
To make a long boring story short - things were so bad in our tiny room for my poor sister that my father came up with a solution. He actually cut a hole in the ceiling, finished the attic space, and stuck a ladder in the hole for me to climb up into my own little pig stye. Not so comfortable when my 5'9" frame had to crawl around in a room with 5" ceilings.
My mother would wish upon me that someday I would have daughter that would be just like me. God works in mysterious ways. Low an behold there really is something called payback.
Anyway - I really hate entering my daughters room. It is usually for emergency situations only and to make sure that bed linens are changed on a regular bases. I don't know why it is, but it always seems easier to tackle the space someone else- as far as a make-over is concerned.
That is why my latest project is of a good friend's teenage daughter's room. Which by the way actually isn't that bad considering what I have at home.
Here are the before photos
with a tiny budget, some creativity - and help from the Local Pottery Barn Outlet
The room is just about finished
wait till you see....

When I was growing up, my parents would not allow a messy room. Of course we didn't have much anyway, so that was pretty easy. My mom was a stay at home mom, and since we lived outside the city she was rather bored being alone all day, and cleaned like a mad woman every day. Needless to say, I never got the cleaning bug. Oddly, my two daughters are the worst at keeping the mess under control, and my son does a much better job.
I can't wait to see the finished project! I did notice that you can actually walk on the bare floor, which you can't do in my daughter's room....
It's good to have you back with your decorating! I have missed that.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that my twin sister and I shared a tiny room too in our large family's prairie four square home (circa 1910). It was a constant mess, and part of the problem was the utter lack of space. There was no place for a desk, so homework papers and books were always strewn about. The closet was your typical old home miniscule space. Clothes were everywhere. My parents never got on us about it, though. Mom just said, "Keep the door closed." We were as happy as larks in that tiny pigpen!
Oh, how funny you should write this post today. I just finished writing about the very same thing -my teenager and her bedroom! Thanks for the great read! Much Love, Lisa
can't wait to see the reveal!.....
Oooh, can't wait!! I lOve makeovers :)

Thank you so much for sharing. What a beautiful space you have created my very first visit here I will follow on my way out so I know my path back here. Perhaps you will find the time to come visit me soon and do the same. I look forward to engaging more throughout the year and beyond. Take care. Cheers SpecialK XoXo
i feel your pain regarding kids messy rooms. i was more like your sis but have since become a bit more laid back. i still "prefer" things tidy but that's probably the designer coming out of me.
i can't wait to see what you do with the teen room...i so love your simple but beautiful style of decorating.
i was feeling bad about neglecting my blog too, but it looks like a lot of us have been very busy with other priorities.
glad your back.

LOL i was the messiest. good thing for growing up!
Can't wait to see it! My daughter is no longer a teen, she will be 21 in May, but her room is forever a disaster. We recently painted and remodeled but now it is just as messy as ever. I find it best to shut the door, haha.
Her room matches her taste and style. It would be more spacious, though, if those stuff lying on the floor are stored in a better place. I'll be looking forward to that makeover project of yours! Good luck!

I have a room to redo that I keep putting off - my 6 and 8 year old daughters' room. Sigh
